The Tuscan coast: holidays amid beautiful beaches and nature

Holidays in Tuscany

Tuscany is more than just a land of art cities and rolling hills, it also makes the ideal region for a summer holiday thanks to its beautiful beaches. The Tuscan coast stretches from north to south, offering various possibilities for those who love the sea. And best of all, it allows you to combine a cultural holiday with a relaxing stay spent at the beach and by the pool!

What places should you visit in Tuscany?

The most famous places in Tuscany certainly include Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, Pisa with its leaning tower, Siena with the Piazza del Campo (where the Palio horse race is held in the summer), Lucca with its beautiful city walls and San Gimignano and its towers. However, there are many other towns that deserve to be visited and discovered.

Maremma Tuscany

Have you heard of Sorano, Sovana and Pitigliano? They are some of the most beautiful towns in the Maremma, the so-called tuff rock towns. The Maremma is a territory in the southern part of Tuscany, which extends under the province of Livorno and covers the whole area of Grosseto, through to the border with Lazio. The charming area includes a large stretch of coast, part of which is known as the Etruscan Coast, named after the inhabitants who first settled it centuries ago. Even today, the archaeological remains of Populonia, Vetulonia and Roselle, can be seen in this unspoilt area of nature. The pristine waters of the Maremma create some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.

The Tuscan coast: the most beautiful beaches

The Tuscan coast offers solutions to satisfy every taste, such as the fashionable Versilia with its wide beaches and bathing establishments, the 7 islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and the wildest areas dotted with coves and rocks. But where can you find the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany?  Many of the most beautiful beaches are located right in the south of Tuscany!

The most famous and beautiful beaches in Tuscany certainly include:

  1. Cala Violina, which gained its name because of the gentle sound produced when the water meets the sand.

  2. The Gulf of Baratti is a wide gulf with golden sand and shallow, turquoise-coloured waters, which can be easily accessed by car.

  3. The Sterpaia Natural Park is a protected area that extends for almost 300 hectares, with several km of free beaches, only a handful of which are private. Shallow, crystal-clear waters and a beautiful pine forest, where you can shelter during the hottest part of the day, make it the ideal destination for families and tourists.

  4. Elba Island is the largest of the Tuscan islands, easily reached by ferry from Piombino (approx. 1-hour crossing). It's a real gem to explore, featuring beautiful coves, villages dotted along the coast and hiking trails. Famous for having accommodated Napoleon, nowadays, it's also a destination for snorkelling, diving and sailing enthusiasts.

Tuscan seaside campsites

One way to experience Tuscany at its best is to book a stay at a campsite by the sea. In Tuscany, there are 4-star camping villages, which are equal to a hotel in every way. Nestled in the greenery, the campsites allow you to spend your holidays immersed in nature.
One such example is Park Albatros: a child-friendly camping village near San Vincenzo, offering bungalows, mobile homes and various types of family accommodation.

Child-friendly camping village in Tuscany

How to entertain children when on holiday? There is always the risk that they will get bored. Fortunately, children can do so many activities at our campsite, so they'll never be bored! Like the other campsites in Tuscany belonging to our group, Park Albatros is a village with professional entertainment suitable for various age groups.

Baby club and junior club

You can entrust your children to our baby club with peace of mind, knowing that they will have so much fun. We conduct lots of recreational activities throughout the day. In the evening we hold a Baby Dance to delight the younger children. If you have older children, don't worry. Our junior club is suitable for older girls and boys, with tournaments and games designed to keep boredom at bay.

Watermania

It wouldn't be summer without the opportunity to swim all day! We are close to the beach (800 metres), so you can choose to walk or use our shuttle, as you prefer. But you'll be amazed by our water park, with swimming pools, slides and inflatable games. Children won't want to get out of the water!

Seaside campsite within a pine forest

Our position is ideal for those who want to stay close to the sea, but who also want to avoid the chaos. We are located just outside San Vincenzo, a small town on the Tuscan coast, close to the Gulf of Baratti, one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Tuscany. A large pine forest provides cool shade and allows you to better enjoy your holiday, even during the hottest part of the day. Children will have fun with the ropes course among the pine trees!

What to see and do in Tuscany

If you want to leave the campsite every so often and visit other places in Tuscany, we recommend the nearby small medieval village of Suvereto, which features small shops and excellent restaurants. After visiting the fortress, you can choose where to dine among the narrow streets of the village: it's a unique experience!
If you love history, don't miss a visit to the Etruscan archaeological ruins of Populonia or Roselle.

What are the best things to do in the vicinity? You could relax in the hot thermal baths of Saturnia, spend half a day discovering the funny statues in the Tarot Garden in Capalbio or visit the San Silvestro mine aboard the train (children love it!).

If you're looking for a last-minute activity, don't forget the festivals! Tuscany has a tonne of local events during summer. Each nearby town sets up a different gastronomic festival: fish, cacciucco stew, wild boar...

Day trip ideas - If you decide to spend the whole day out, we recommend day trips to Elba Island, the tuff rock towns (Sorano, Sovana and Pitigliano), or a little further away you can reach Florence, Pisa or Siena.

What if it rains? If you have young children, you could visit the Livorno Aquarium, if you are all adults it's the perfect time to visit a winery. Did you know that Bolgheri, with its super Tuscan wines, is only situated 30 km away from us? In Petra, about 20 minutes away, you can find the famous winery belonging to the starchitect, Renzo Piano.
